Scrap Yarn Unicorn Party!
So I’m using up little bits and pieces of yarn, well, in some cases quite a bit but not enough to actually make a big anything, and making these adorable unicorns. It’s the Unicorn Bel pattern from Unicorns, Dragons, and more Fantasy Amigurumi I bought. I did make a little change on the purple one though and did some back loop only sc’s around the top of the hoove to make it more flat. I think it gives it a nicer finish.
That being said, it’s interesting how the sizes came out. The black and pink one was leftovers of the Caron Endless yarn, which was not quite as heavy at the Caron One Point, which the purple one was made out of. So they came out a touch smaller than the purple one which clearly had thicker yarn. I also dropped looping yarn behind the eyes as the pattern suggested. It pulled in the eyes a bit on the pink one but in the example photos, the eyes seem flat on the stitches so I just didn’t do that any more. I will likely make a few more of these before I get tired of it. They are super cute though!
Unicorn Mirage
I’ve been on vacation the past few days, but it hasn’t been terrible relaxing since we were updating my youngest sons room completely. New carpet, blinds, doors, paint, everything. I was filling nail holes with putty and cleaning out closets and such.
Today was the first day since the holidays I was able to sit down, chill out, and make something. I finished this unicorn today. I decided to make one similar to the unicorn mirage servitors in Lineage 2, after playing classic and noticing EVERYONE playing an elemental summoner. So now I have my own pony!
Not sure what I’m going to do with it yet. I think I may send it to my friend from Germany instead of the other unicorn I made.
Updated an Alpaca
I removed the blanket for this little lady and added the flower wreath. I like this a lot better and I’m not hiding all those fleece stitches. In shop now! (SOLD)
My Draenei Priest
I had some scrap yarn, the blue, yellow, and grey was the last little bits and I made myself my WoW priest!
Well, I need to make one more arm but it was interesting trying to finish up with like 20 inches of the blue left, ha. I used the pony back legs to make her legs since her bottom half is technically a ‘goat’.

I enjoy learning new patterns but a lot of times I end up making edits one way or another. I found myself doing that with the unicorn Bel pattern already! I made two with the Caron Endless yarn, which came out smaller than the Caron One Pound. I then also tried it with Caron Simply Soft and a 3.25 hook, and a baby 3 yarn, and I think that makes it come at just the perfect size around 6 inches rather than 8.
I also did back loops only on the 5th row on the legs to give the hooves a bit more definition, and even dropped switching color on the legs. It’s faster and honestly I think it looks better. Here is a pink one I finished today like that:
Reminds me of the 80’s My Little Ponys just a little bit. I also never did the color change around the mouth (looks like a cow!) but I have messed around with different patterns on the legs. Like this one (baby yarn)!
Anyway that being said here’s a few pattern swaps I like to do.
The horn from Unicorn Bell looks AMAZING. The pattern calls for twisting thread around it as well, but I don’t bother with that. The horn comes out perfectly. The other pony pattern I have has one that uses a twisted method and I simply never could get it to look right. It ends up looking like a Mcdonalds ice cream cone. You are supposed to sew it in such a fashion that it looks like an actual horn but, I just couldn’t get it to work. Ever. I would DEFINITELY use the Bel horn on multiple other projects that have a need for a horn. It’s simple and it looks GREAT.
The wings from the other pony pattern is at this time, my favorite set of wings. I’ve used them on my sheepies and as long as the yarn is thick enough, it comes out beautifully. Caron One Pound has been my fav so far, but with Caron Simply Soft I would have to use either double skeins or maybe another 2 or 3 yarn with it. It comes out too splitty if you aren’t using a tight stitch and just way too thin otherwise.
All trial and error though!
