On a roll with ponies!

I switched back to using Caron Simply Soft for the ponies and I like how it turns out better than the other yarn I was using.  It’s hard on my hands though because although Caron is lovely for amigurimi it’s hard on the hands since you have to hold it tight for every stitch and in the case of the Simple Soft, tight to not get any splits.  But I finished up a pink ‘land’ pony and another pegasus!

I did finally figure out the neck stitch as well.  I know it had it in the tips section but I wasn’t quite understanding that during the back and forth, you don’t crochet into the chain 1 nor the side of any stitches.  Yes, it totally said it in the notes but when you are dropping down like three rows it had been a little confusing.  Now it makes sense.  Skip the jump ENTIRELY and go to the next level and most of the time it works out fine.  Occasionally no matter how well I count I end up being a bit off but I just eyeball it and fix it right up.

I can’t quite decide what ‘hair’ I like best though.  I used the pink Caron for the yellow pony, and some old Loops and Threads print for the pink one.  I used Landscapes for the black pony which is pretty but came out with rather thick curls.  The Caron Cakes is currently my favorite, but the stupid Unforgettable came out pretty nice too.  It gave skinny curls like in the pattern photo but it suffers from that stupid yarns problem of looking fuzzy and being stupid delicate to work with.  I’d like to know what the author used in her photos.  I have a feeling it’s just another color of Unforgettable but if it’s something else not quite as dumb I’d totally try it.

FINALLY finished the grey pony

This was my first attempt and there are a few things “wrong” with it.  I made one of the legs way WAY too long and I couldn’t unravel it since I had sewn it on already.  So I just CUT it and sewed a new bottom on.  I also did not insert the head INTO the neck and sew it like it was directed to so I fixed that by stitching the neck closer to the jaw area.  It looks a bit more like a mule but hey, I finished the wings at least!

I am still not clear on what’s wrong with the neck instructions though.  I have made 3 of these and each one the neck was basically backwards, I think?  I’ve done two more after the original and each time, even following VERY VERY CAREFULLY, the next ends up backwards.  I’ve just been winging it anyway because I make different ears and no nostrils anyway. I feel like I may have to rewrite the neck for myself.

Polar Bear

I ran into a blog type (Amour Fou) site with a ton of really cute patterns, I went ahead and tried the bear! It came out so well!

Another Rapunzel

But you know I cannot follow directions exactly.  I braided different colors in the hair, twisted it around the head twist like a crown, and bought prettier eyes.  I cannot decide if I want to put a mouth on again though.

I think I may put some extra bangs on her too. And probably some lips, the face looks too blank.

Rapunzel Doll

I tried this with scrap yarn I had and eyes twice as big as suggested (that’s all I had on  hand) but, I like it.  I will get the normal eyes next time but I always test my patterns because sometimes they just don’t work right.

I would do this again.

I stopped the dress early because it was already past the legs and, I ran out of that color.  I also added a mouth because why not.  I like it though, pretty easy. You can find it here
